Access 2009 Travel Grant

Planning on attending Access 2009? Need a little help getting there? ETIG can help!

We have a $500 travel grant available to members of ETIG to help you get to PEI this fall. Simply send us a message letting us know you’re interested in the grant and we will draw one winner from all applicants (names-in-a-hat style). Email us at:

ETIG Library Camp FTW!

What a great day – I’m still reeling.

We’re about 10 days away from the ETIG Library Camp (Friday, May 29 @ McGill) and things are gearing up nicely: the schedule for the day is up, we’ve got three fun speakers lined up for the morning (Jessamyn West, John Fink, Jason Hammond), we already have some great suggestions for an interesting & informative afternoon, and there are all sorts of awesome folks signed up who I can’t wait to meet/see again!

If you’re in the area and haven’t signed up yet, we still have space for about 15-20 more, so head over to the wiki and register. We’ve even got a neat treat for every attendee, but you’ll have to register & show up to find out what it is (as if you needed further enticements)!

ETIG Library Camp UPDATE

Due to slow registration, the ETIG Library Camp pre-conference will no longer be held at the Palais des Congrès, but instead will be held in the Cyberthèque at McGill University Library.

What does this mean for you?

• Same speakers.
• Same content.
• But the cost will only be 40$! (Lunch is no longer included – but there are tons of spots to eat at near McGill, a list will be made available to you on May 29).

For those of you who have already registered, CLA will be refunding your $100 registration soon (if they haven’t already). We’re hoping you’ll still join us! We’ll be accepting cash payment on the morning of the event and will issue receipts then.

If you’re attending, please add your name to the Attendee List on the wiki and don’t forget to add your session ideas too! Let us know if you have any questions. And see you in Montreal!

Preconference at CLA 2009 in Montreal

Jessamyn West (yes THE Jessamyn West) will kick-off our day with a keynote on emerging technologies, followed by two sessions on using these technologies in your library. The afternoon will be an unconference where participants will share and learn about a variety of topics pre-determined by the group. (Note: this is not a “sage on the stage” afternoon – come armed with a curious nature and a desire to engage others.)

Yes! We have a blog!

Amanda and I figured it was about time that a group that talks about emerging technologies started using an emerging technology. (And yes, we are aware that now that Abbie the cat has a blog, they are no longer emerging but have fully emerged.)

We plan on having weekly posts on a variety of topics, including:

• technologies which may be useful to Canadian librarians
• Library 2.0-ness and whether or not we’ve moved onto 3.0
• the deluge of information out there these days and what we, as information professionals, are going to do about it
• whatever else comes up in the comments to other posts

Ultimately, we want to use the blog as a forum to find out what Canadian librarians are doing with technology, so that we can all share our experiences and make services better at our libraries.
